No matter how long we exist, we have our memories. Points in time which time itself cannot erase. Suffering may distort my backward glances, but even to suffering, some memories will yield nothing of their beauty or their splendor. Rather they remain as hard as gems. ~Anne Rice
Memories are funny things. There are some that you hold on to with every breath of your life and there are some, that no matter how hard you try and forget, they continue to sneak up on you. There are memories that are not necessarily forgotten, but get lost along the way, and with a gentle reminder they are brought to the front of the line.
Each memory has a different lock, so each one requires a special key. A song. A dream. A movie. A book. A familiar face. A picture. A quote. A smell. A touch. A name. A sign. A story. A poem. A joke. A letter. A smile. I could go on forever...
Today's key was a simple note. Six simple words written. Six words that resembled my mothers handwriting so closely, that my heart stopped. My heart ached and I couldn't stop the tears from welling up. Just like that I was flooded with memories. For that, I am thankful. I am thankful for those unexpected brief moments that bring me closer to what I've lost.

I know exactly how you feel. I love those moments. They just stop you dead in your tracks and allow your heart to feel those moments all over again. The beauty of memories. Such a blessing.
